Aqura

He got up early… packed his old suitcase.
Even took the toothpaste… hardly left a trace
Just a goodbye Post-it-Note… on the bathroom wall
That’s all.
She never saw it coming…much to her dismay
The grass out front’s all overgrown…since he went away
Her desk is overloaded…with a stack of last month’s bills That she can’t pay…

But she’s still standing
Empty handed
Couldn’t be more broke
If she had planned it.
Instead a ’facing life
He outran it,
He couldn’t take it…
But she’s still standing

I watched her cry through mid-July when morning sickness hit
Round about September all her jeans refused to fit
Half way through November, her body blocked the sun
She was almost done.
But time just made her stronger…washed away the pain
All those lonely hours she spent pickin’ out a name
They passed in just a single blink…
When the baby came…

And she’s still standing
Not empty handed
Couldn’t be more broke
If she had planned it.
Instead a’ facing life
He outran it,
He couldn’t take it…
But she’s still standing.

That child’s a little angel come to bless our neighborhood
I watch her while her Momma works,
The company does me good
Just yesterday, she laughed
And all by herself …she stood…
That child stood…

And they’re both standing
Hand in hand…amd
They couldn’t be more broke
If they had planned it.
Instead of runnin’ scared
They’re gonna make it
Love can take it…
And they’re both standing
Love’s still standing
They’re… standing.
